The Challenges

The challenges are supposed to push me physically and mentally.  As well as being goals to aspire to they are also going to be proof that ordinary people can achieve extraordinary things when they put their mind to it.  The challenges are broken down into different sections and will be completed in addition to how I usually spend my time.
30 Day Challenges:
  1. No caffeine for 30 days
  2. Vegetarian for 30 days
  3. Meditate for 15 minutes per day for 30 days
  4. Cold Shower for 30 days
  5. Take a photograph a day for 30 days
  6. No IPhone for 30 days
  7. No music for 30 days
Academic Challenge:
  1. Complete a Dissertation for an MSc in Social Research Methods (I failed this last time I tried! See here.)
Environmental Challenges:
  1. Reduce my carbon footprint by cycling 500 miles a month to work (also a physical challenge!)
  2. Improve the environmental credentials of my school through the establishment of a student eco council
Philanthropic Challenges:
  1. Donate £1000 of my own money to Challenges 30
  2. Raise another £14,000 for the scholarship scheme
  3. Volunteer as a Governor at my school
  4. Volunteer my teaching skills for a period of at least 2 weeks outside of term time
New Challenges:
  1. Learn Krav Maga (martial art/ self defence system)
  2. Learn to Scuba Dive
Literary Challenges:
  1. Read 12 novels (one a month) that I’ve always wanted to read but never got round to
  2. Be photographed reading a book in 30 unusual places
Random Acts of Kindness Challenge:
  1. Complete a weekly random act of kindness and post what I did on this site
Physical Challenges:
  1. Hell up North
  2. Mountain Marathon- (1st July 2012)
  3. Complete an Olympic Distance Triathlon
  4. Run a mile in less than 5 minutes
  5. Cycle the Coast to Coast Trail
  6. Sandstone Trail – Cheshire (34 miles)
  7. Leeds Half Marathon
  8. 10 Peaks Challenge- Lake District
  9. Complete a cyclocross race
  10. Post my training progress on this blog and twitter in order to help others with their training goals

Poll challenge:

  1. The final challenge will come from the results of a poll on this blog.  So if you have any suggestions for a challenge that you think I should attempt then get in touch.  The more challenging the better ;-)
